What Makes Our Prayer Powerful?

Hi dear readers, how are you doing today? We’ve recently started writing to our junior readers and that has been fun! If you missed it, please click here

During school run a few weeks ago, the girls and I prayed in the car and we had this conversation afterwards:

Princess T: Mum, I like how you pray powerful prayers

Me: That’s kind of you to say, what do you understand by powerful prayers?

Princess T: You always pray for other people before you pray for yourself

Me: Thanks but that is not what it means for a prayer to be powerful

Today, I thought to share what makes a prayer powerful

Faith in the one we are praying to

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him

Hebrews 11 v 6

Whenever we pray, it is important that we have faith that the Almighty God who we are praying to hears us and loves us; any prayer outside of this cannot produce result.

But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That man should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

James 1 v 6-7

A right heart

The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

1Samuel 16 v 7

When we pray, God looks at our ‘heart’s posture’, He looks at the intentions and our motives.

Therefore, for our prayers to be effective, we need to have love as our ultimate motive.

Our prayers have to be motivated by love for God and love for man for it to produce result

Prayers have to be fervent

The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power]

James 5 v16

There are different types of prayers and there are certain prayers that we have to commit to by being persistent.

Sometimes, we give up too quickly especially when expecting a result from our prayers. God does not lie, if He says persist, then there is a reason He has said so. Believe Him and do as He has said, your result will be satisfying to both you and Him.

I hope you’ve been blessed by this. Please share with your friends and family. Also, kindly leave your comments below as I look forward to learning from you.

I leave you with the peace of God!

Thank you for message Ma. Even patience is needed bse our ways are not God’s ways. His never too late, his never to early. His time is always the best.

Simply worded but important reminder of the expectation of faith through prayer.
