Mummy, do you love me?

One wet Saturday afternoon, Princess T and I sat on my bed reading seperate books. She looked up for a moment and asked “Mum, do you love me?”. I’m not sure what prompted that question but I replied “What do you think?”, she chuckled and said “Of course you do, you are my mum”.

I marvelled at how ignorant my little girl was, to think every child was loved by their parent and sitting there, I started to reflect on the similarities between a parent’s love and God’s love.

Growing up, there were several times I had doubts about my parent’s love (especially as a teenager) because of how strict they were but I grew up eventually to learn all was done out of love and God gave me the parents I needed.

The closest I’ve ever felt to experiencing the love of God in bodily form is the experience I have with my daughters, and I’m fully aware there are limitations and faults to this love which does not exist with the love of God.

God loves you…

I have loved you with an everlasting love. With unfailing love, I have drawn you to myself

Jeremiah 31 vs 3

I remember my daughter’s birth and holding her in my arms, I experienced a love that I never knew existed and what I find most interesting is how this love has grown. On that day, I couldn’t have thought it was possible to love her more. This love and affection embodies security, provision, protection and much more.

This is how much God loves you. God is your father (parent). He loves you and loves to love you. He said “Can a mother forget her suckling child and have no compassion on her child? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”. This is amazing, and this is how God feels about you.
As we become more aware of this love, it will change us, the way we love ourselves and how much we love people.

God doesn’t keep a record of your wrong…

Recently, Baby T was naughty and I told her off before bedtime so she went to bed crying even after apologising. The next morning she came into my room and said Mummy, I’m sorry I won’t do that again. I was surprised because I had forgotten it happened.

How many times do we act this way with God? We forget he doesn’t keep a record of our wrongs, He forgives us and loves us despite it all. We put limitations on God’s love as humans by keeping a record of our own wrongs, being afraid to come into His presence or even allowing the devil to condemn us .

And I will forgive their offences, and I will never again remember their sins.

Hebrews 8 vs 12

I want you to know today that you are forgiven. He died for you; if you were the only one on earth when Jesus came, He would still have died for you. You are that valuable to God.

God makes plans for you…

As parents, we constantly talk and pray about the future of our kids. We know how much their education will cost even till University level and we have started to make plans for it. We don’t make any decisions without thinking of the impact on the kids, this is because we love them.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and hope”

Jeremiah 29 vs 11

This is how the ‘Father’ plans for you. God has given you a life and He is interested in every detail of that life. There is no evil, sudden failure or disaster in that life. If we are concious of this love, we won’t worry about the future or live in anxiety about the present.

What could possibly make my child not enjoy the future I have planned for her? Only if she decides she doesn’t want it. And this is same of our relationship with God, if we don’t walk in His ways or do His will, we live outside that ‘perfect plan’ He has for us and that is when we cannot be helped.
There is nothing in your life or in your future that could come to God as a surprise. He knows what is ahead and He alone has made plans for you. Rest in this love!

God wants you to enjoy…

This morning, Dr. O and I were discussing visiting family in London and he said “Book a hotel, you know the kids love hotels”. We constantly think of activities for our kids, make restaurant bookings, hotel bookings, visit friends etc, just because we want them to have fun and enjoy growing up.

…He has given us all things richly to enjoy

1Timothy 6 vs 17

Do you even know God wants you to enjoy life? Growing up in orthodox churches, we were made to believe modesty according to the Bible meant ignoring all forms of enjoyment thereby misrepresenting Christianity as a ‘dull and boring’ life.
When we know better, we do better. This is far from the truth. God wants His children to live the best life possible and you are one of them. His thoughts towards you are of good and not evil.

I remember growing up, my mother was a Schoolteacher and also sold clothes. She always picked the best clothes for us. I have memories in Sunday school of other little girls touching my dresses in admiration.
If my earthly parent can give me the best, how about my heavenly Father that owns the whole world? Would God hold any good thing back from us? No, He wouldn’t!

Today, I write this post in tears just thinking about the love of God. How deep, how wide His love is. You might not have had a good (earthly) father but God is not a man and He is perfect.

The world is full of darkness but this love has the ability to bring light.

Take time today to reflect and ACT on this love. When you experience God’s love, don’t be quiet about it, share it with others.

His love is everlasting and we will continue this discussion soon. Remember to share this post and leave a comment.

I leave you with the peace of God.

The greatest Commandment law of God is ‘ ‘LOVE ‘. God’s love is Supreme and Unquantifiable! He loves us,He’s our Comforter,Our shield and defence in the time of tribulations. Our great provider. He never fails. Our Saviour, the righeous ran unto Him and they were saved. He’s the father of all fathers. He will do what man cannot do in our lives, if we can surrender all unto Him. He loves us, and He needs our undiluted love too. Thanks my doc for this great deep thought write-up!
