Who told you that? Naming the voice in your head!

Hi there! I hope you are well and winning despite all the challenges life throws at you. I thought I would share my lessons from my conversations with a friend recently.

She had taken her son to football, but he was being uncooperative and kept asking her to get involved. She was tired and frustrated, you know the kind of tired that means you have very little left in your tank, and eventually she snapped.

“Am I your maid? Am I your driver?” she asked angrily before deciding to take him home.

On the drive back, her son quietly said, “But Mummy, I didn’t say you were any of those things.”

And he was right. She had called herself those names and questioned her roles, but those were not his words.

We all find ourselves doing the same, just different scenarios. So I ask you today, ‘whose voice is that in your head?’

What do you call yourself?

“Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.” Judges 6 v 15

The angel of the Lord called Gideon a mighty warrior, he was quick to deny this as he could only identify with his physical circumstances.

The voice in Gideon’s head that judged him as weak was not his real identity.

What does the word say that you are? What has He called you?

Just like Gideon, our identity is not based on our physical strength but the strength of the one who called us.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2 v 9

The Bible is filled with scriptures of our identity, the one above is just one of them. To fully live the life God has called us to, we have to identify with our identity.

Whose voice is accusing you?

There are too many people living in fear, regrets, guilt that God actually knows nothing about. Some even think God is punishing them for a sin he forgave such a long time ago. He has no record of it.

Personally, I believe many of us will one day ask God questions about issues we dealt with whilst on earth (and maybe even blamed Him for), and we will find He knows absolutely nothing about it.

Ask questions! Ask difficult questions!

For every name you have called (or still call) yourself, weaknesses or strengths you identify with, fears of the future and expectations that you carry, always ask, whose voice is this?

Where did this come from? Is it from my background or experiences? Is it from school or old friends?

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10 v 5

This is what God expects us to do with ‘voices’ that do not align with His word concerning us. Leave no room for lies for the devil himself is the father of lies. Be bold and quick when pulling down lies, you are a success.

I hope you have been blessed by this post and receive the light in it. Remember to share with your friends.

I leave you with the peace of God!
